If you have a look at West Lothian’s colourful history, you will see that the area has over Twenty ‘Lost Villages’. These were originally miners settlements constructed by the Nineteenth Century Mining and Oil companies to house their fast growing workforce during the ‘Black Gold’ rush of the Nineteenth Centuries Industrial Revolution. Amongst these lost villages there were Two p;aces with the same name – Woodend.
There was a village with this name near the town of Newton but today we’re going to take a look at the lost village of Woodend just outside the Town of Armadale on the west side of the district, deep in the heart of ‘The Black West‘.
