My Love for History

Author and Founder of The west Lothian History Hub, Karalyne McCormack

Ever since I was a young child, I have always been intrigued by history. Castles, Old Buildings, Workings and Old railways always fascinated me. Ive always loved looking at these and bring the past back to life with my imagination. As a child, I used to love going out walking in West Lothian with my Grandfather who was also a keen history enthusiast. Whenever I seen something that looks old or disused, I’d always be curious as to what it was, where it came from and when. This curiosity has stayed with me all my life.

As I got older, my love for history never waned. In fact, it has probably increased. With the ability to quickly look things up online that came with the birth of the worldwide web was a great source of learning detailed Information as well as field trips and local libraries and museums. With this knowledge, I have always enjoyed writing and sharing my findings with others who are also fellow local history enthusiasts.

The Launch of the West Lothian History Hub

So, I launched the First West Lothian History hub around 2009. This consisted of the website and also a busy Facebook group which still exists and runs today. But unfortunately I have been unable to access it as the only admin for the past few years as my old Facebook account locked me out claiming that it doesn’t exist anymore whilst i can see it. So unfortunately, I have been unable to moderate that site and approve contributions. But its original content still stands so I have kept the group where it is.

However, around 2015, the site had a few technical issues and was put on a temporary hiatus which has taken a little longer than I had First anticipated. But finally after years of deliberation and writing offline, the West Lothian History Hub is live once again. The New Website was launched in the spring of 2026 and covers all the towns and villages of West Lothian with a plethora of different, colourful historic accounts surrounding each of them.

My Vision for the Website

My vision for this site is explained perfectly in it’s title. I’d like the website to become a Hub that is a rich source of Information for anyone who wishes to learn about the areas history or even just their own local Town or villages history. The place anyone can come and find out what they want to know about West Lothians vibrant past.
