On this day 100 years ago, not only West Lothian Stopped working but so did the entire United Kingdom.
The Day West Lothian Stopped Working
On the morning of the 4th of May, 1926, the Entire workforce of Britain downed tools and went out on Strike. This was First and Last time workers of all unions united and struck together. The strike lasted 10 long days before the workers returned in defeat.

But this strike wasn’t just a holiday. Although striking, some of West Lothian’s miners weren’t happy to just sit this strike out. No. Instead they decided to stage a ‘work In’

However, this well meaning and so far successful plan sadly was cut short and came to an end 4 days later when Tragedy Struck at Hilderston Colliery
Defeat
After the whole of Britain’s workforce underwent a long and gruelling 9 days on strike, the leaders buckled. On the 12th of May, 1926, the TUC accepted defeat and announced a return to work for everyone immediately.
