Mid Seat Cottage sits quietly in its wooden forest garden in the rural Countryside of the Black West. A quiet spot these days but a heart of Industrial zone in days gone by. In the late 19th century, it lay right in between the busy East Whitburn to Bents Road and the Bathgate to Cluech and Morningside Railway line. Not always so quiet huh. But what was all the noise about? Well, Lets have a look at its past, shall we?
The History of Mid Seat Cottage
On the 1880 Parish map pictured above, We can see Mid Seat Cottage sitting just about a Hundred or so Yards from the little Train station by the little Upper Level Train station on the recently opened Railway that connected the Cluech and Morningside to Longridge, Scotch Gauge track with the Durhamtoun Chemical works in Bathgate to the North and the Iron Works at Wilsontown to the North.
