The Village settlement of Roman Camps is situated on the East side of West Lothian about Three miles South of Broxburn. It has a small population and a small handful of houses. It also has its own little community centre.

The History of Roman Camps

It’s still unclear of the exact origins of the village. According to Peter Caldwell’s book ‘A History of Broxburn’, nearby to these miners rows, it was thought that there was an ancient fortified encampment site, which was thought of to be of Roman origin. So the name was given to the cottages built near this spot – Roman Camp Cottages. The camp however was later found not to be Roman after all
